Learning/teaching piano notes

This is mostly so that I don't lose these but hopefully you will find that it works for you too.

I hope you aren't annoyed I am putting these here….I know it's not a recipe…I don't want to forget them, and I feel like my sisters might use this too someday

I am attaching 2 different ways I teach notes in piano. The first is an animal (and a few objects) based learning (for pre-readers)…I used this on Hailey with mostly success--we did well remembering them as long as we were doing flashcards.  I had a book that had 5 of the notes.  The rest she and I figured out together.

Now, we are moving on to the Mnemonic devices since she can know what letters things start with.  It seems she uses a combination of both of these when she can't remember a note "on sight"  They both have value depending on what stage your kids are at.

So here is what I do for the animals

BASS CLEF

Bass A (first "space" on the staff)
Alligator-low and scary

B (first line)
Bear-big deep sound

C (second space)
Cougar

D
Dinosaur
(also a deep scary sound)

E
Elephant

F
Fish (it is swimming on a line)

G
Giraffe-it is peeking out of the top part of a cage at the zoo

A
Apple that the giraffe is eating

B
Bee on the apple in the tree

C
Cat-see its whiskers (the ledger line)

TREBLE CLEF

(starting with middle C)

C
Cat-see its whiskers (the ledger line)

D
Dog
Peeking under the doghouse door

E
start of the EGB Mouse (which is a song Hailey loved learning)

F
Fox peeking out through his den

G
Part of EGB mouse OR
Gecko-type of lizard

A this is where we start small little animals
Ant

B
Beetle

C
Caterpillar

D
Dragonfly

E
Egg (that the caterpillar hatches from-part of the spaces)

F
Fly

G
Grasshopper (hopping over everyone)

So, here are the devices I use for "older" kids

Treble Clef spaces
you can do FACE but I like (starting at the first space)
Frogs Are Courage Eaters…GROSS! So it has the G in it
yes, I made that up, don't make fun of me.

Treble Clef Lines (starting at the first line)--this is the one I think most people learn
Every Good Boy Does Fine

Bass Clef Spaces
All Cows Eat Grass

Bass Clef Lines
Good Burritos Don't Fall Apart
